Founder of Tendre Deal Mother of two Alexandra de Faucigny is the epitome of the modern entrepreneur. Today her online French boutique Tendre Deal is filled with beautiful, independent French children’s brands who all share a common thread – social consciousness and exceptional high quality sold at a fraction of the recommended retail price. Having left Paris after a ten-year sales & marketing career, the mother of two never imagined that motherhood would impact her so consummately that she would be inspired to introduce the naturally designed French clothing, accessories and toys which were staples of her children’s early years, to parents in the UK; “There has long been a love of the famous French childrenswear brands in the UK, but I wanted to support the lesser known French designers whose products are kind to the environment and safe for our children, to UK parents.” Today Tendre Deal’s platform showcases brands committed to the development and wellbeing of the children and brands making a social contribution.
The gorgeous Made in France range by Annabel Kern, is made of natural textiles and free from synthetic inks, which are safe for baby to chew. The products are manufactured in small ateliers in Marseille by disabled young people with a distinct care and love for detail. The quality of the craftsmanship is evident, and the social impact significant. Equally the cute fashions crafted by Fairtrade certified La Queue du Chat are manufactured in Umergam, Gujarat, India, a coastal town located 150 km north of Mumbai. The factory works exclusively with organic cotton, and the whole production chain complies with fundamental rights which ensures all workers are ensured a fair wage, an equal pay and medical insurance for the workers and their families. Support is given to an orphanage located in the region where the clothes are produced and each year a stock of baby & children’s clothes is sent to a charity that provides essential assistance to homeless mothers.
Having been raised by an entrepreneurial father who ran a real estate business located between Normandy and Paris, and a mother who supported her father with admin assistance, enterprise and service permeated their family home, and it was perhaps inevitable that Alexandra would eventually go into business for herself. As sole UK distributor for some of the brands housed in her Tendre Deal shop, Alexandra is championing stylish and socially aware independent brands, many of them run by other mums back in France, and bringing them to the UK marketplace. Despite home now being North West London’s leafy Kensal Green, Alexandra’s passion for French culture is somewhat expected given that her surname De Faucigny has its roots in French aristocracy – Faucigny is a commune in the Rhone-Alpes region is South-Eastern France. “I don’t have a castle or an aristocratic bank balance sadly!” laughs Alexandra, but admits to being proud of her strong French bloodline. “I am passionate about using business as a vehicle for social contribution, and reintroducing the naturally made toys which spark the imagination of the very young whilst supporting the designer and their community. Children learn through play, and by committing to bringing products to the market which support our babies’ development, I get a huge sense of satisfaction.” For further information on Tendre Deal contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
